Dance Auditions, A Baby Shower, and a Family Potluck – Audiciones de baile, un baby shower y una cena entre familia

Starting this post off is proving difficult since everything I’ve done since the last one, I can’t seem to remember. Thursday was a blur, I can’t recall what we did but I’m sure it was fun. Actually, it was very busy now that I think about it, filled with last minute gathering of school supplies and labeling of every single thing, down to the last colored pencil.

Empezando esta publicación se está haciendo un poco difícil porque no puedo recordar nada de lo que hice desde la última que escribí. Jueves paso rapidisimo, no puedo recordar qué hice pero estoy segura que era divertido. Ahora que me recuerdo, pase el día ocupada con la búsqueda de útiles escolares y poniendo los nombres de los mellizos en todas las cosas, hasta la última lápiz coloreada.

Friday is a whole other story since I actually managed to escape the house to go out and do something other than shop. In the morning, we dropped off school supplies for the twin’s and my father’s Tio Segundo came to visit. After they left, my parents and I attended a school meeting at Pedro Luis Calero which was thoroughly boring and involved a lot of long-winded explanations for seemingly simple things. Once that riveting event was over, we raced home to drink coffee with bread (a must at five in the afternoon) before getting ready to go off to a concert at the Teatro Nacional Sucre.

Viernes fue completamente diferente porque logré escapar la casa para hacer algo que no eran las compras. Por la mañana, dejamos a los útiles de los mellizos y después el Tío Segundo vino a visitar. Después de que se fue, mis padres y yo atendimos la reunión en el Pedro Luis Calero y la pase muy aburrida escuchando las explicaciones que eran demasiadas largas. Cuando acabó ese evento, regresamos a la casa con rapidez a tomar café con pan antes de irnos a un concierto en el Teatro Nacional Sucre.

The concert was anything but boring and we all had a good time alongside two of my dad’s panas, Agustín and Negro Carlos. The concert had been put together by one of the Cachimuel siblings, Ati Cachimuel. The Cachimuel family is known throughout the music community, nationally and internationally, for their skill and innovation. He had decided to create a presentation about Mother Earth and growth, where he brought together both elements of the traditional and the new. There was a local choir, an old-school harp, and a multitude of rhythms throughout the concert and it was well worth the lengthy taxi ride to the venue itself.

El concierto no era aburrido en ningún aspecto y lo pasamos muy bien con los panas de mi papa, Agustín y el Negro Carlos. Uno de los Cachimuel, Ati Cachimuel, organizó la presentación. Los de la familia Cachimuel son muy conocidos en la comunidad musical, nacionalmente e internacionalmente, por su habilidad e innovación. El creo este concierto sobre la Madre Tierra y el crecimiento, usando elementos tradicionales y nuevos. Incluyó un coro, una harpa, y un multitud de ritmos y la manejada larga más que valió la pena.

Saturday began early and ended late, dance auditions starting us off in the morning. My sisters and I spent four hours at the dance studio, where we were put through a series of tests that would determine our physical shape, our rhythm and memory, and our level of creativity. At the end of it all, we all wound up in the intermediate group which is not too shabby. All the teachers are very encouraging and I know that we will all be able to improve and work our way up to the advanced group and maybe even the Elenco, the elite dance troupe that travels internationally.

El sabado empezo temprano y termino tarde, empezando con las audiciones de baile por la mañana. Mis hermanas y yo pasamos cuatro horas en el estudio, donde nos tocaba hacer varias pruebas que determinaron nuestra condición física, nuestro ritmo y memoria y nuestra creatividad. Después de todo, todas terminamos en el nivel intermedio. Todos los profesores nos apoyan y se que vamos a progresar mucho y llegar a ser parte del grupo avanzado y tal vez parte del Elenco, los bailarines que se presentan internacionalmente.

No sooner had we been sorted into these groups when we were quickly transported to Tía Marcia’s house for Mónica’s baby shower. We put frosted mini cupcakes and helped out with the final setting up before the festivities began up on the terrace.

Nos tocó dejar el estudio rápidamente para llegar a tiempo a la casa de la Tía Marcia para el baby shower de la Mónica. Cubrimos a los pastelitos y ayudamos en preparar para las festividades en la terraza.

We went to the Metropolitano again today and of course, we didn’t bring the camera and my father forgot his phone… But that’s okay, next time we’ll be sure to take more photos. It was very hot today, so hot that you could feel the heat emanating from the dusty ground, and while we were wandering around you could hear the creak of the eucalyptus as the branches swayed in the wind.

Nos fuimos al Metropolitano de nuevo y no trajimos la camara… Pero esta bien, la próxima vez si voy a tomar fotos. El sol era demasiado, la tierra polvorienta emitiendo un calor bien fuerte mientras caminábamos y los árboles de eucalipto chirriando por el viento.

I was reunited with an old friend today, Negro Carlos’ daughter Sami, someone I share many of the same interests with. We talked about life after high school (she still has a year left) and dance and music as our passion. After she left, I set to work on making my contribution to the family potluck, shepherd’s pie. Everyone contributed a little and dinner was filled with variety and deliciousness. After eating, I sat down with Tía Sole and looked through cookbooks, searching for the next baking project to attempt.

Me reuní con una amiga, Sami, alguien con que comparto muchos intereses. Hablamos de la vida después del colegio (todavía le falta un año) y el baile y la música como nuestra pasión. Cuando regresó a casa, empecé a hacer mi contribución para la cena de familia, un pastel de vegetales y papas. Todos contribuimos un poco y la cena terminó siendo variado y delicioso. Después de comer, me senté con la Sole y buscamos recetas en el libro de cocinar para el próximo proyecto.

Tomorrow, I have to finish preparing my English lessons and I’m sure I’ll have a lot of housework to do as well. Life is a constant commotion here and I don’t mind it at all. Let’s see what tomorrow brings, shall we?

Mañana, tengo que acabar de preparar para mi clase de inglés y se que hay mucho que hacer en la casa. La vida es una conmoción constante pero eso no es cosa mala. Veremos lo que trae mañana…
